Discover a special piece of toy history with this Vero Shell Garage, produced around 1965 in the former GDR. This rare model, partly carefully restored, is a unique collector's item that carries both nostalgia and historical value.
The garage was produced by Vero (VEB Vereinigte Spielwarenwerke Olbernhau), East Germany around 1965. Equipped with 2 shell pumps, text Garage on the roof, working realistic car lift and lifting bridge. The garage is made of wood and plastic as is usual with Vero garages. The garage has been partly restored, parts have been cleaned and supplemented and repaired where necessary with respect for the original.
The Vero Shell Garage is a fascinating example of toy production in the GDR. Despite the fact that Shell was a Western brand, Vero produced models with international recognition. This points to a certain degree of cultural openness within the toy sector, even in a highly controlled economy. The garage reflects the ideal image of modern mobility in the 1960s and fits perfectly with the then popular scale models of cars.
For East German children this meant a play world full of imagination; for us today it is a piece of material cultural history. Garages by Sio are now rare and particularly interesting for collectors of GDR toys and for toy car collectors.
