The Dinky Toys 24ZT Simca Versailles "Taxi" is a beautiful example of French Dinky production from the 1950s. This model was introduced by Meccano France in 1957 and depicts the Simca Versailles in the form of a classic Parisian taxi.
The real Simca Versailles appeared in 1954 and was based on the Ford Vedette design, after Simca acquired the French Ford factory in Poissy. The model combined American lines with French elegance, making it popular with the middle class. Many of these cars also found their way into the taxi world, especially in Paris, where they were known for their spacious interiors and reliable engines.
The Dinky model, in the typical black and red livery of Parisian taxis, features realistic details such as the taxi sign on the roof and the characteristic proportions of the Versailles. The scale model became a popular collector's item because it reflects both French automotive history and city life in the 1950s.
This particular example is in excellent condition and comes complete with the Dutch brochure, certificate of authenticity, and original box. The presence of the box and documentation makes this model particularly valuable, as such complete sets are becoming increasingly rare these days.
For Dinky Toys collectors, as well as enthusiasts of classic French cars and taxi models, the 24ZT Simca Versailles "Taxi" is a magnificent piece of miniature history and a true asset to any collection.
