The Airfix H0/00 Patton Tank is a classic piece from the Airfix Military Series, released in the 1960s/1970s. Unlike later kits, this model was delivered completely cast in plastic, ready to use, and immediately suitable for use in dioramas or as accessories for model railways in H0/00 scale (approximately 1:76). This series was intended for young collectors and model building enthusiasts who did not have the time or experience to assemble models, but still wanted a realistic addition to their military scenes.
The model represents the M48 Patton tank, an American medium battle tank from the Cold War era. The M48 was deployed in the Vietnam War, among other things, and was also in service with NATO countries. The recognizable shape of the turret, the 90 mm gun and the low silhouette are well represented in the Airfix model, despite its small size and simple design.
The original box is now a rare collector's item. This box was small in size, usually printed with the well-known Airfix illustration style: a dynamic battle scene in which the Patton Tank is prominently shown in action. The box clearly states the scale format (HO/OO) and is often part of a series in which other tanks, vehicles and soldiers were also available.
This Patton Tank is a fine example of early model miniatures for children and collectors. With original box, this item not only represents a piece of military history, but also a nostalgic memory of the golden age of Airfix miniatures.
